Гелловін (англ. Halloween) або День усіх святих святкується в ніч з 31 жовтня на 1 листопада. Свято походить від Самхейн – старовинного кельтського свята врожаю та початку Нового року, що також асоціювався із приходом зими, вмиранням усього живого. Звідси і пішло повір’я, що цієї ночі приходять душі померлих. Щоби охристиянізувати свято Самхейн папа Григорій III переніс День усіх святих із 13 травня на 1 листопада. Хоча Halloween не українське свято, – багато молоді радо перейняло таку традицію і з задоволенням влаштовує тематичні вечірки.

Halloween is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of All Hallows’ Day. It’s a Christianized feast initially influenced by Celtic harvest festivals. The word Halloween dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows’ Eve (the evening before All Hallows’ Day). Today’s Halloween customs are thought to have been influenced by folk customs and beliefs from the Celtic-speaking countries. Even though Halloween is not a Ukrainian feast Ukrainian youth likes this tradition and celebrates it by throwing Halloween-themed parties.
